This book is an ode to these unique individuals, of which the narrator eventually will bid farewell. The memory of his own descent, however, he will always carry with him.

Miguel Street is still one of the most read, most admired and most humorous works of V.S. Naipaul. It is to be read as a cheerful picaresque novel, but is also an unforgettable portrait of the provincialism in a broken-down colonial society.
