The melancholy from some of the stories, makes you desire a time, when blame and innocence, good and bad seemed to have clearer dividing lines. Almost. Because Goslinga's message is clear: slavery is an important page in the Curaçao history, but a black one.

GOSLINGA, old history teacher on the island of Curaçao and old professor of the Universities of California (Berkeley) and Florida (Gainesville), tries in fourteen sizzling stories to give a picture of the feelings, the mentality, the unique character of the population of Curaçao in times of slavery and succeeds herein.
